11.04.2023 THE INTERUNIVERSITY CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD DEDICATED TO THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF PROFESSOR YUMASH UVALIEV WAS HELD AT THE EKU The annual interuniversity Student Olympiad in Chemistry was held at the Sarsen Amanzholov VCU. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of chemist, teacher, war veteran, first rector of UKPI, Honorary Rector of EKSU, Professor Yumash Karimovich Uvaliev. The opening ceremony of the Olympiad was attended by the Vice-rector for Strategic Development and Scientific Work Irina Rovnyakova, Head of the Department of Chemistry of the S.Amanzholov EKU Bakyt Shaikhova and the teaching staff of the departments. – I congratulate all those present on Science Day! Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pays great attention to the development of the scientific potential of young scientists. Today, the President of the country places a big bet on our youth so that you can contribute to the development of science in Kazakhstan with your discoveries, research, new achievements, projects and startups. You, as a younger generation, are obliged to absorb all the best that teachers at universities give you: to participate in all competitions and Olympiads. It is necessary for Kazakhstan to flourish and the system of higher education to become competitive," Irina Rovnyakova, Vice–Rector for Strategic Development and Scientific Work, addressed the participants of the Olympiad with a parting message. Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Rosa Aubakirova shared with the students bright memories of Yumash Karimovich Uvaliev. – We would like the students to literally absorb the qualities that were inherent in Yumash Karimovich: great professionalism, hard work, dedication, self-discipline, self-organization. The main thing for us is that students pay special attention to scientific work, because Yumash Karimovich believed that the path to science begins with a student's bench, – says Professor of the Department of Chemistry Rosa Aubakirova. It should be noted that 90 students from Sarsen Amanzholov EKU, Daulet Serikbayev EKTU, as well as Toraigyrov University and Shakarim University took part in the Olympiad. – I have been interested in chemistry since childhood. Therefore, it is a great honor for me to participate in such Olympiads. I learned about the interuniversity Olympiad from my supervisor. I tried and prepared for this day. I was impressed not only by the organization of the Olympiad, but also by the university itself. I thank the organizers for the opportunity to take part in such competitions," said Madina Zhumabekova, a student from Toraighyrov University. At the Olympiad, young chemists faced off in two rounds: theoretical and practical on the topics of "Salts" and "Qualitative analysis". They are inextricably linked with Yumash Karimovich, since his scientific interests were combined with a very important direction of fundamental science, with the process of mutual transformation of crystallohydrates, and in applied terms with the use of Karatau phosphate raw materials. – Today, we, the students of Yumash Karimovich, paid tribute to our teacher by holding such an Olympiad. The topics of the Olympiad were also chosen not by chance, because Yumash Karimovich, as a graduate student, worked a lot on the topic "Crystallohydrates: the transformation of salts". Therefore, the theme of this Olympiad is "Salts", one of the most interesting chemical compounds that exist in nature, – said senior lecturer of the Department of Chemistry San Orazova. According to the results of the Olympiad, Altynai Tursyngazykyzy, a third-year student of Sarsen Amanzholov University, was awarded the first place, Akmaral Orazalinova, a second-year student from Shakarim University, took the second place, Dilnaz Kayyrbek, a second-year student of Sarsen Amanzholov University, took the third place. – The tasks were difficult, so I'm glad I answered them correctly. I am pleased that I became the winner of this Olympiad. It is an honor for me," replied Altynai Tursyngazykyzy, a student at Amanzholov University. According to the nominations, Madina Zhumabekova, a student from Toraighyrov University, became the best practitioner, and Talshyn Kanatkyzy, a first-year student of Sarsen Amanzholov EKU, became the best theorist. The winners were awarded prizes, and all participants of the Olympiad were awarded certificates and a notebook dedicated to the anniversary of the Honorary Rector of EKSU, Professor Yumash Karimovich Uvaliev. – The guys and I came from Shakarim University. We are participating in the interuniversity Chemistry Olympiad for the first time. We thank your management for the opportunity to take part in the honorary Olympiad. The theoretical part was difficult for me, but I easily passed the second part, because practice is always much more interesting," said Akmaral Orazalinova, a student from Shakarim University, Olympic medalist. The management of the university and the teaching staff of the Chemistry department noted that the Olympiad will be another step towards mastering chemical knowledge.
